The following figure can be used to determine the equivalent plate thickness of the gauge number in the selected gauge size standard, in inches or millimeters.
The standard gauges provide thickness for aluminum ,stainless steel ,standard steel and galvanized steel. The size of a gauge (or gage) is a number indicating the thickness of a metal plate, with a larger number indicating a thinner metal plate.
